SWTOR - PvE - Tracking the Origin

As part of the new World Event beginning April 15th (2012) there is a quest chain that you can begin by exploring the spaceport and triggering a few scenes to get "buffs".  Once you get all three a mission terminal lights up for you and gives you the quest "Tracking the Origin".  Completing this quest rewards a Crimson Rakghoul pet.

TV Screen Image
View the screen by the spaceport.  You don't have to watch the whole thing, it's the clicking on it that's important.  This will give you a buff called "Informed".

Once you're finished with the video head to the north a short distance (along the path, up around the wall blocking you directly north) and you'll see an escape pod jutting out of the wall.  Click on the escape pod to trigger a "Survivor" hopping out.  It's not much of a survivor and the rakghoul gets exterminated by the team standing closeby.  This will give you another buff "Attacked".

Now head to the far east side of the port, up around and behind the cantina.  There is another group of containment soldiers clustered around a box (labelled medical supplies).  Clicking on the box triggers one of the soldiers to explosively transform to a rakghoul and attack.  This will give you the third buff "Exposed".

You can do the three buffs in any order, once you recieve the third buff they will combine into a buff labelled "On the Trail".  Once you have this head over by the speeders to the tented area and pick up the "Tracking the Origin" quest from the terminal.

Once you have the quest you have to find the 12 scattered pieces of wreckage all over Tatooine.  These are NOT by the crashed starship that you've discovered from the other quest series.  I spend half an hour searching around by the ship trying to click on things before someone mentioned that they were scattered all over the map.

Following is a list of the locations and where to find the bits and pieces.  I started in the dune sea and worked my way back, so that's how they're listed.

The below two maps show the general areas of each piece of wreckage.  Keep scrolling down for closeups and location writeups.  Click on any picture for a larger view.

Wreckage Locations in the Dune Sea
Wreckage locations in Jundland
Wreckage #1 Dune Sea
#1 Location: ( -2031, -1836 )
This one is just behind a small camp with some buildings and a ship, it's very close to the exhaustion zone so be careful walking around back there.

Wreckage #2 Dune Sea
#2 Location: ( -2412,  -760 )
On the cliff overlooking the Sand People encampment.  The encampment is in a kind of valley/hollow with some water at the center.  The cliffs extend over top of the encampment.

Wreckage #3 Dune Sea
#3 Location: ( -1389, -479 )
This is pretty much in the middle of nowhere on a sand dune, just watch your mini-map and head to the above co-ordinates.

Wreckage #4 North Jundland
#4 Location: ( -595, -1443 )
This is just to the south of the entrance to the Dune Sea, if you're following the path, just head to the south around the rocks before you exit the area.  It's tucked in against the rocks in the back.  This is directly above the tunnel leading to the Dune Sea, so if you're only looking at the co-ordinates, make sure you're on the top and not inside the tunnel.

Wreckage #5 North Jundland
#5 Location: ( 1192, -1269 )
This one is also in the middle of nowhere, just follow the map and head for these co-ordinates.

Wreckage #6 North Jundland
#6 Location: ( 760, -912 )
This is on the path leading to the Heroic area, there is a cliff stretching out over top of this area so make sure you are on the lower path.  Directly behind the above screenshot is a rock bridge stretching across the chasm.  The wreckage is around the corner off the edge of the path, you can't see it until you come right to the edge and look around the side.

Wreckage #7 South Jundland
#7 Location: ( 1092, -407)
This is on a cliff beside the path.  You have to continue along the path to the south, then circle back to the top side of the cliff.  Once you're up top just jump down onto the piece of wreckage.

Wreckage #8 South Jundland
#8 Location: ( -498, -331 )
In the sand people area close to where you have to go to jump off and find the datacron.  Easiest to come up from the south after collecting some of the other wreckage pieces.  Coming down from the north you can cut through the outlaw den and continue south to this area.

Wreckage #9 South Jundland
#9 Location: ( 1795, 603 )
To get to this area you have to go through a tunnel which leads up to this plateau.  The tunnel starts where you see the path end on your map.  Once you get on the plateau just head to the east side, you can't miss it.

Wreckage #10 South Jundland
#10 Location: ( 1094, 727 )
On a small mound with a bunch of other technology on the far south end of Jundland.  Head to the map co-ordinates and you should be able to find it - it's somewhat camouflaged with the other debris hiding around, but it's in there.

Wreckage #11 South Jundland
#11 Location: ( 306, 262 )
In this area there are multiple paths connecting in a kind of canyon area, the wreckage is half way up one of the cliffs and can't really be seen from the floor of the canyon.  Head up to the center of the path branches and you'll find yourself on top of the cliff looking down.

Wreckage #12 North Jundland
#12 Location: ( 745, -2546 )
In the far Northwest area of Jundland by all the flying insects.  Located on top of one of the structures by the rest of the buildings.  Easy to miss if you aren't looking up ... so, look up.

Once you have all 12 pieces of wreckage scanned it's time to complete the quest and find the infected box in the Sand People area.

The box is marked on your map so it isn't difficult to locate.  Once you get there if it isn't clickable just wait a minute, someone was there just before you.  Inside the box is your reward, a Crimson Rakling pet.

Congratulations!

Crimson Rakling pet picture - yes he did just kill all those sand people

  1. your dotted map (not the dune sea, but the other one) doesn't correspond to the screenshots of the locations with explanations.. you have like 3 dots in the wrong places.. i don't remember which anymore, but it was very frustrating.

    1. I apologize for that, I was using the same overlay for both maps and the extra dots were left over from the Dune Sea map - I must have missed hiding them for the second image. I've fixed that oversight now, I really appreciate you letting me know there was something wrong.
