SWTOR - Orokeet Pet - Egg to Hatchling

Since the 1.2 patch first came out on the test server there has been two puzzles that I've been following and participating in solving.  The first one is the Taun Taun pet that the patch notes mentioned could be captured on Hoth - the second was the Orokeet pet which could be hatched by mysterious means.

I was one of the first people to find a next containing an egg, and I'm pretty sure I was the first one to put up a video - which I'm inserting below for everyone else to find their own egg.  Shortly after a second location was found - it took me a while to get a video put together for that, but I have it and it'll come below as well. There is also a third location (added May 9th).

World view of the egg locations
Once you have the egg it's just a matter of hatching it, which is what took a long time to solve - finding the proper heat source that the egg would respond to and that wouldn't kill the player.

Egg Location #1

The first location is closer to the republic area.  In the video I begin from the nearby Outpost in the lowlands and head directly southwest toward the broken bridge.  You can see the broken bridge on your map, half spanning the gorge that is wedged up into the south edge of the map.

Egg location #1
Once you find the bridge it's just a matter of finding a way down to the next.  I like starting on the east side, jumping down to the cliff a bit into the shrubbery, then jumping down to the horizontal log.  After you get on the first log you can hop down to the north where the second log meets the rock wall pretty safely.

Don't be discouraged if the nest only hast he non-clickable egg in it.  The clickable one is gone pretty much constantly.  The respawn on is between 4 hours (not personally confirmed, but most people say 4 horus).  On my server there were usually 2 or 3 people standing down there chatting, just waiting for it to appear.  I ended up parking two alts (one at each egg location) and just logging in with them every hour or so that I could.

Egg Location #2

This egg is far up in the Imperial area, the closest republic flight point is House Alde - which isn't close at all. If you're familiar with the trip up to get the Datacron on the dam, you'll know where to go.

Shortly after entering the northern zone from the Juran Mountains you'll find a small path branching off to the east and heading into the mountains.  This is where you want to be going.  The path isn't really visible on the ground, but if you watch your mini-map you can see the dotted path you need to be following.

Egg Location #2
The path forks a few times, always stay to the right and continue heading up higher into the mountains.  Eventually you'll come to a cave entrance.  The baddies here are a bit higher level so if you can sneak through to avoid aggro it'll work in your favour.

Through the cave continue along the path as it circles around to the west until you come to the cliffs overlooking the entrance to the cave.  Climb up on the cliffs and do some mountain climbing up to the peak, then across onto the snowy area.  Once you reach here start making your way downward, the nest is directly above the cave entrance and should be visible once you start scaling along the cliffs so you know what to shoot for.

The video is much clearer than the explanation.

Egg Location #3

You need an MGGS to reach this position, if you don't have one, but it from Lain Ricie.

This egg is in the relatively neutral area surrounding castle Panteer.  You want to head to the castle, then drive around to the southern portion (across the front yard and through a break in the wall to the south).

There is a bunch of rubble strewn around, head through the second break in the wall and there is a giant pile leaning up against the wall to the north.  Climb up this pile (hopefully with less difficulty than I had).  At the top turn right and look to the east, high up on the wall you'll see an MGGS grapple point.

Unusual Egg Location #3
I got the bug where the grapple point pulled me up, but then stuck transferred me back to the starting point, so I had to use the trick where you mount in mid-air before it let me stick the landing up on the beam.

From there just travel back tot he west and you'll see the next sitting there nice and pretty.

Hatching the Egg

Once you have the egg it's time to head to Tatooine and hatch the little birdy.  Where else would you look for a heat source?  Your first step is to get the "refreshed and sustained" buff from one of the moisture evaporators.  Since you're going to be subjecting yourself to extreme heat you want to prevent the heat stroke that would accompany it.

If you need more of a writeup for getting the buff I wrote about it more thoroughly here: http://swttor.blogspot.com/2012/02/swtor-magenta-adegan-crystal.html

Once you have the buff head to the dune sea.  In the far southwest corner of the area is a small Czerka outpost.  There is a bit of stuff surrounding the underground entrance - I know as republic you've come here for a quest sometime in the past.

Location of heat source
It's a reasonably long trip, but the reward is worth it.  Once you arrive head around the back of the underground ramp and you'll see this machine that looks like a bunch of solar panels hung on a rectangular frame.  This is the extreme heat source.  Just head in between the panels - you should get a notice that the egg is reacting to the heat almost immediately.

Heat Source
If at this point you've forgotten the refreshed buff you'll be warned that this is an exhaustion zone and start taking damage.  If you have the buff you'll be fine.

It takes a minute or so of standing in the heat for the egg to hatch.  Once it hatches you lose the buff and will start taking damage.  I panicked a bit at this point and started bouncing around, but even if you die because you aren't paying attention you still get the bird.

Congratulations!  Enjoy your very own pet Orokeet.

Isn't Orokeet cute?
